A circular ramble largely on forest tracks and narrower paths through woods with the odd bit of road and hill side.There will be lots of trees , fine views , nature reserves , open hill sides , lakes with dam and old mines

The walk will take us steeply up from Penmaenmawr to Moelfre (our high point at 435m ); to the Druids Circle at Cefn Coch. Over to Foel Lûs (362m) which on a clear day has super views across to the Great Orme, Anglesey and Tal y Fan. Descend to the Welsh Coastal Path and contour round to the Victoria Gates before returning to Penmaenmawr.
From the Trefriw car park we walk up past Fairy Glen and its waterfalls and rapids, then up the graded path through the oak woods of Coed y Gwmannog, and on to Llyn Geirionnydd. Then through conifers, passed the lead and zinc Pandora Mine, and onto open moorland before descending the gorgeous dank and mossy Llanrhychwyn gulley. A brief stop at the ancient St Rhychwyn Church before ascending towards Grinllwm hill (287 m OD). At the col there will be an opportunity to ascend the hill for the fine views of Conwy Valley etc. There is then a short steep, somewhat challenging, 135 m descent back down to the Coed y Gwmannog path and back through Trefriw.
Rowen – Daffodil Mountain – flanks of Tal y Fan 7.5 mil
Sunday, 18th May
Moderate anticlockwise circular along tracks and footpaths with a few easy stiles. Walking through woodland and then moorland with excellent views. We ascend slowly up the woodland zigzag path to Daffodil Mountain ( the daffodils are best in May). Stopping briefly at Llangelynnin Church before ascending to the Iron Age Cae Bach Hillfort on the slopes of Tal y Fan and onwards via the Neolithic cromlech and “Roman Bridge” back to Rowen. 370 m height gain.
Moel Dyrnogydd and Iwerddon Ridge
Walk starts from an old mine track opposite the Crimea Pass parking. We head along this flat track for 3 km and then climb off path / indistinct tracks up to Moel Dyrnogydd (524m). On a clear day we have good views of Snowdon. Our route takes us down to a small lake where we have lunch before heading up on a good path to Iwerddon (583m) where we have great views of Allt-fawr, a future destination. We back track along the ridge before taking a circular route back.

The “Dragon” Walk from Llandygai Village Car Park

Ysbyty Ifan Circular
The walk will commence up a steep hill.The path on the first half of the hill is fairly stable but there are some treacherous smooth slabs which can be very slippery , especially when wet .Care to be taken at this point.The second half of the climb is over uneven stones and water courses.There are 3 gates to negotiate during this part of the walk . No stiles.
On reaching the top of the climb , the route levels out and is a pleasant walk over a quiet tarred road with superb views over the Eyri mountain range. Route continues for some miles on good pathways and pleasant views. Having walked through Pen Y Geulan farmyard , we will follow a track through open farmland towards Padog. We will follow a good route through open farmland to the finish

Linear walk with regular, frequent bus link (Arriva 12) to take you to start or back at the end.
Option of drink and food at the start in 'Coast' cafe at Rhos or Sea and/ or drink and food at 'Coast' cafe, in Llandudno at the end

A circular walk from Llyn Eigiau to Melynllyn and Dulyn reserviors, 6 miles
Rowen – Cerrig y dinnas circular
A moderate circular walk along footpaths through woodland and moorland from Rowen car park, past the old Llangelynnin church, and up to the Cerrig y dinnas crags with its Iron Age Fort (at 312 m OD).
The hillfort offers excellent views [on a fine day that is!]. The walk includes a steep ascent through woodland. Walking distance is 10 kms (6 miles)
Saturday, 25th Oct
A figure of eight walk around the memorial woodland(A quiet and tranquil space next to the Afon Porth-Llwyd with information boards about it's tragic past) then a walk to the river and around the modern Dolgarrog village. The paths are uneven and rough in places walking shoes or boots are recommended.

November 2025
Centenary Dolgarrog Dam Disaster Walk
Saturday, 1st Nov
A 9.9 mile clockwise circular walk from the Dolgarrog Dam Memorial up to the Eigiau Dam that failed so dramatically on the 2nd November 1925. The route follows the flanks of Afon Porth-llwd, the floodwater conduit on that terrible night. An initial steep 240 m-high footpath ascent follows the north side of the river gorge. We then pass by the southern side of Coety Reservoir and on to Llyn Eigiau Reservoir using an easy graded trackway. Here you can inspect thethe broken dam. Return along the north side of Afon Porth-llwd and back to Dolgarrog along a combination of tracks, road and footpaths.

Starting at Rhos Promenade and walking up and around Bryn Euryn Nature reserve. This limestone outcrop usually gives lovely views. Walking poles may help with the walk up and down. Visiting the ruins of the 15th Century medieval manor- Llys Euryn.
JANUARY 2026
Pre-North Wales AGM walk
Saturday 10th January 2026, a short circular walk from Craig y Don, up Nant y Gamar and down to the back of Bodafon farm and back. There is a steep uphill section near the start so good walking boots/ shoes are needed and maybe walking poles. Usually there are great views to Ynys Mon and the Carneddau.
Llanfairfechan- Clip yr Orsedd

Walk to the top of Clip yr Orsedd above Penmaenmawr quarry where you would hope to have views of Ynys Mon/Anglesey, Ynys Seiriol/Puffin Island and the Carneddau.
Circular walk from Llanfairfechan so expect uphill walking near the start. Some fairly steep and uneven paths make this a C+ local grade. Harder than some 'moderate' walks

The Slate Trail- Bangor to Bethesda 6.3 miles

This route starts from Porth Penrhyn along the Lon Las Ogwen but mostly uses footpaths not the cycleway to reach Bethesda. Riverside walking then fields and views. Public toilets and refreshments in Bethesda. Linear walk- bus back

The Slate Trail- Bethesda to Llyn Ogwen 5.5 miles

Linear walk up the Ogwen valley mainly on cycle path and a back road. Returning on the T10 bus. The bus is usually every two hours through the day but there is a warm visitors centre or a walk up to the stunning Llyn Idwal (1.25 miles there and back, more to go around) if you have a long wait.
n.b. I am walking the Slate Trail clockwise this time. The guide book gives directions anti clockwise

Linear walk at the side of Llyn Ogwen then along the valley to Capel Curig. We parked in Betws y Coed and used the T10 bus(2 hourly) to the start and S1 sherpa bus(hourly) from the end back to Betws. (Plenty of parking plus bus or train options)

Cascades above Aber Falls waterfall 6.5 miles

A walk uphill to the head of the Aber Waterfalls at about 300m. There are a couple of exposed sections and some rocky areas. If it has been wet it can be slippery here. You need a good head for heights and balance. From here there is a lovely walk along the banks of the Afon Goch river to a large shallow pool. A bit further up the river valley pass a large sheepfold before crossing the river at a suitable point. The return route initially contours (at about 450m) round the lower slopes of Bera Mawr and Drosgl; crosses the Afon Rhaeadr-Bach before it tumbles down to the valley below. From here descend steadily down a good path and cross the Afon Gam at about 300m. We continue descending down the West Bank of the river to the Nature Reserve. At this point we return to the cars by the main tourist trail passing Aber Falls on our way back.

A circular ramble along quiet country lanes, farm tracks and fields The walk will include beautiful views of the River Conwy, a visit to the grade 1 listed St Marys Church and the site of the Roman fort Canovium Care needs to be taken whilst crossing the sometimes busy B1506 and over the several steep stiles on route
Conwy circular 4 miles

Easy and level 4 mile circular from Lancaster Squre in the heart of historic Conwy , this route will take you out of Conwy via St Mary's churchyard and the harbour . Onwards towards the marina along the coastal path to the golf course. Follow the footpath through the golf course and onto the Morfa . Return through Conwy marina and Bodlondeb woodlands. Lots of beautiful coastal views and local history. Have a care when crossing the short distance across the golf course .
Conwy mountain via Crows Nest 7 miles

On a clear day this route offer stunning coastal and valley vistas. Starting at Lancaster Square in Conwy town and onto Mynydd y Dref via Bodlondeb and then Crows Nest. Return to Lancaster Square through Marine walk.
Llanrwst and Gwydyr 4 miles

A circular walk passing Gwydyr Chapel, quiet paths and tracks with some grat views . You could do a short diversion to the historic Llanrychwyn Church but it was closed for maintainance in August so we didn't do that.
